SEED OF ABRAHAM

Star #4 in "Stars of Hope in the Old Testament Sky." Genesis 12:3; 22:18 (NKJV). "I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you: And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. . . .In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed by voice."
These words were spoken by God to Abraham. It was through Abraham's seed (offspring) that all the families and all the nations of the earth would be blessed. We have people from several nations who read this daily Bible study: America, Canada, Mexico, Poland, Russia, and others, including Israel. Through Abraham's seed (Israel, the Jewish race) all of us have been blessed. How so?
The apostle Paul is extremely specific in telling us how Jesus Christ fulfilled this ancient prophecy. "Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, 'And to seeds," as of many, but as of one. 'And to your Seed," who is Christ" (Gal. 3:16). The NIV says, "The Scripture does not say 'and to seeds,' meaning many people, but 'and to your seed,' meaning one person, who is Christ." I like the way the NKJV and NASB capitalizes "Seed" when it is referring to Christ. That leaves no doubt whatsoever. Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Seed of Abraham. What a blessing we have in knowing Christ! As Paul said, "Therefore know that only those who are of faith are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, 'In you all the nations shall be blessed.' So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham" (Gal. 3:7-9). Jesus is the seed of Abraham. Those who put their faith in Him, Jew or Gentile, share in this wonderful blessing! Praise His holy name!
Prayer/Hymn: "Come, Thou long expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel's strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart." (Charles Wesley)
