Star #3 in "Stars of Hope in the Old Testament Sky." Psalm 2:7 (NKJV). "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.'"

Here, one thousand years before Jesus was born, we find God speaking to Messiah. How wonderful and reassuring that message must have sounded to Him: "You are My Son." When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, the heavens opened to Him and He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and alighting upon Him. "And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matt. 3:17). The message of assurance was heard again a second time when Jesus was transfigured. "And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" (Luke 9:35). There is no doubt that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God. Even demons confess this truth (Mark 3:11). You and I confess this as well. It is known as the Good Confession. "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matt. 16:16). In the religion of Islam this truth is strikingly absent for the Koran teaches that it is beneath the dignity of Allah to have a son. I'm so glad that it was not beneath the dignity of God to have a Son! We serve a God who declared for all the world to hear: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"

Hymn: "Yea, LOrd, we greet Thee, born this happy morning, Jesus, to Thee be all glory given; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing: O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord."
