BORN OF A VIRGIN

Star #2 in "Stars of Hope in the Old Testament Sky" ~ Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV): "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." This is most amazing. Isaiah made this prophecy about 700 years before the Christ was born. And he tells us that a virgin (almah - a young woman of marriageable age) would give birth to the Christ Child. God now narrows all the women of the world down to one - Mary.
Seven centuries later this prophecy was fulfilled when a young virgin named Mary conceived and gave birth to Messiah. Matthew explains to his largely Jewish audience. "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit" (Matt. 1:18). An angel told Joseph, "do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit" (v.20). The Matthew tells us, "So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying: 'Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son..." (v. 23). Luke's account tells us how this was accomplished. An angel told Mary, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35). Never before had something so miraculous happened. A virgin conceiving through the Holy Spirit. A virgin who had not know relations with a man giving birth. Mary is a stand alone woman in all the world. Jesus Christ is a stand alone Messiah in all the world. It had never happened before and it shall never happen again.
Hymn: "Silent night, holy night, All is calm, all is bright / Round yon virgin mother and Child, Holy infant so tender and mild, / Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace." (Joseph Mohr)
