WITHOUT CHRIST

"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5 NKJV).
Someone has estimated that there are 31,124 verses in the Bible. Todays verse may be one of the most vital verses in all of Scripture - "without Me you can do nothing." Just think of the implications of this truth. If we are not abiding in Christ, and if Christ is not abiding in us, we can accomplish nothing of spiritual and eternal value! Nothing! Nada, zip, zero, nothing! Jesus Christ is the true vine (see v. 1) that covers the earth. His kingdom is everywhere. Those who are in His kingdom and are abiding in Christ are bearing fruit for the Father, who is the vinedresser. There are fruitful branches and then there are fruitless branches (see v. 6). Those who do not abide in Christ, or allow Jesus to make His home with them, are cut off and cast into the fire.
Life in Christ is absolutely essential to spiritual life here and eternal life in the hereafter. A car must have fuel to run on. A believer must have Christ to survive. Connectivity with the vine is essential. Spiritual nourishment flows from the vine to the branches. His presence makes us fruitful for the Father. His absence - because of our willful sin or outright rejection - makes us dead wood and imperils our soul. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one gets to God except through Him (see John 14:6). Without Christ you cannot effectively pray (see v. 7), you cannot overcome sin, you cannot gain heaven. He is your lifeline, your lifeboat, your lifeblood. In Him you cannot fail. Without Him you cannot win. Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God who lives in you and me, is absolutely indispensable to spiritual and everlasting life! Abide in Him always!
Hymn: "Without Him I could do nothing; Without Him I'd surely fail. Without Him I would be drifting like a ship without a sail. Without Him I would be dying; Without Him I'd be enslaved. Without Him life would be hopeless, But with Jesus, thank God, I'm saved." (Mylon LeFevre)
