THANKSGIVING DAYS

Today is Thanksgiving Day. I am thankful we live in a country whose forefathers saw fit to declare a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to the Almighty God who created us, redeemed us, and sustains us. I hope the day never comes when this nation will cease to acknowledge God on this special day. But when you think about it, every day should be lived in thanksgiving to God. Maybe what we need to do is have one day a year for grumbling and complaining - call it "Grumble Day" - and get it out of our system. Then live 364 days in thanksgiving - call them "Thanksgiving Days."
"Thanksgiving," said Robert Herrick (1591-1674), "invites God to bestow a second benefit." I like that thought, don't you? The Bible says, "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thess. 5:18). I wonder how many "second benefits" I have failed to receive because I was not thankful for the first benefit? Here's a good reminder for all of us: "When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you" (Deut. 8:10). I am thankful for this good land and all its bounty. May I never forget from Whose hand all these blessings come.
Prayer:
Thank You, dear God
For all you have given me
For all you have taken away from me
For all you have left me.
Happy Thanksgiving Day(s)!
