"...that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man..." (Eph. 3:16 NKJV).

We can never live the victorious Christian life without the help of God's Holy Spirit working in us. The apostle Paul prayed for the Christians in Ephesus to experience "a mighty increase of strength by his Spirit in the inner man" (Moffat). Do you remember when the Spirit came upon Samson? The Bible says, "And when the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand" (Judges 14:6 NKJV). Samson did not have this strength on his own. It was only when he was strengthened with might through the Spirit that he was able to accomplish such feats (see also Judges 14:19 and Judges 15:14).

You and I need also need to be strengthened with might through the Holy Spirit in our inner man. We may not do exploits like Samson but we will be empowered to win the battle over temptation and sin (something Samson never learned to conquer). We have a Power that is working within us that is greater than we know. Notice what Paul says as he brings this prayer for the Ephesian Christians to a close: "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us..." (Eph. 3:20 NKJV, emphasis added). This is why it is so important that we never grieve or quench the Spirit who dwells within us. Without Him, we are as powerless as Samson was in the arms of Delilah.

Prayer: Holy Father we do praise You for sending Your Holy Spirit to live in us and be our source of inner strength! Through Christ we pray.

I appreciate your studies, Victor. I look forward to each Lord's day morning to listen to your lesson in our class. May the Lord continue to bless you in your efforts to strengthen unity within the body of Christ. God bless you and Evelyn! By the way, in your quote of Eph. 3:20 in the above lesson, I believe there is a typo error...it says NOT to him that is able...and I think it should say NOW to him that is able...Laretta

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Laretta. I always hate it when I spell something wrong, especially when it is a verse from the Bible!
