THE LOVE POURER

Have you ever been so filled with the love of God that you just felt it flooding your soul and overflowing to others? That is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? How did that happen? What caused you to be so "overfilled" and overwhelmed to the point of overflowing? I believe the Holy Spirit is responsible for these moments. I base this on Romans 5:5 ESV which says, "...and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into your hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been give to us." Sometimes while dining at a restaurant the server may unintentionally fill your drinking glass to the point of overflowing. That is what the Holy Spirit intentionally does with God's great love. The Moffat translation says, "God's love floods our hearts through the holy Spirit which has been given to us." That is one flood we should all desire with all our hearts.

The King James Version says the love of God is "shed abroad" in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. God's love is too large to be kept in one container. The Message reads, "We can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!" The next time you pour yourself a glass of water or milk, think of this passage. The Holy Spirit is our server. He is going to pour into our hearts the love of God so generously that it may overflow. God wants His love "shed abroad" to others through His people. The Holy Spirit is the Love Pourer. Our hearts are filled with God's love because He is a generous pourer. He gives us so much that we are forced to share our bounty with others.

Hymn: "The love of God is greater far than tongue our pen can ever tell, It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell . . . O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure - the saints' and angels' song" (Frederick M. Lehman)
