THE INDWELLER

If you are a Christian then you have a special guest who dwells within you. We are calling Him "The Indweller" to today's study because the indwelling Holy Spirit resides in every believer. God dwells in us (2 Cor. 6:16; 1 John 4:12, 15) and Christ also resides with us (Eph. 3:17; Col. 3:16). Therefore, we should not be surprised to learn that the Holy Spirit, sometimes called "the third person of the Godhead," also dwells in us. For example:
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His" (Rom. 8:9 NKJV). It is wonderful to know that the Holy Spirit has chosen to set up shop in our being.
"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you" (Rom. 8:11 NKJV). Twice in this powerful passage the apostle Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit dwells in us - the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead! If He could raise Jesus from the dead He can raise you for your depression, discouragement, or disillusionment!
"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" (1 Cor. 6:19 NKJV). It boggles the mind to think that some professed believers do not know this. What Bible have they been reading? What preacher have they been listening to? Again we see that the Holy Spirit is a gift from God ("whom you have from God"). Most important of all, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. That should have a tremendous impact on the way we think, what we say, what we do, where we go, and how we treat our bodies. Someone has said, "It is easier to build temples than to be temples of the Holy Spirit."
One final verse. "That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us" (2 Tim. 1:14 NKJV).
Hymn: "Holy Spirit, breathe on me, Till I am all Thine own, Until my will is lost in Thine, To live for Thee alone." (Edwin Hatch)
