GET RID OF ANGER

It has been said, "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread." That is certainly the case with anger. Many an angry fool has rushed in where angels fear to tread. Solomon reminds us that anger resides in the bosom of fools (Ecc. 7:9). Thomas a Kempis said, "When anger enters the mind, wisdom departs." A person without wisdom is a fool. Anger makes you look and act like a fool. In fact, Horace called anger "a short madness." When you let anger rule your life, you will ruin your life - and perhaps the lives of others.

Paul, rather bluntly I think, wrote to Christians in Ephesus as follows: "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice" (Eph. 4:31 NIV). Why would anyone want to have such horrible bat-like things hanging in their closet of his heart. Paul wrote in similar fashion to the church in Colosse: "But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from you lips" (Col. 3:8). Anger has such vile roomates. We must evict them all lest they eviscerate us!

My wife sometimes asks me to take out the garbage. (I tell her no one will mug her in the alley for a bag of garbage, but that doesn't seem to work.) I am usually glad to oblige. Who wants garbage building up in the kitchen, creating a stench and drawing flies? God tells us to get rid of anger like we would get rid of a splitting sack of rotting garbage. Time and time again the writers of the New Testament had to tell their readers to get rid of anger. You see, anger does not always wash downstream after our baptism. Sometimes it pools and collects and breeds ugly reptiles of th flesh and spirit. GET RID OF ALL ANGER LIKE YOU WOULD A BAG OF GARBAGE! (Sorry to shout at you. :-)
