AN UNCHANGING GOD

"Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:16, 17 NIV).
You always know where you stand with God. He does not change or alter His position. He is not like a slick politician who says one thing one day and something entirely different the next day - and then denies he ever changed his position! We serve and unchanging God. Charles Kingsley said, "All but God is changing every day." The weather changes. The stock market changes. Our health changes. But God never changes. He is constant and consistent.
"God is not affected by our mutability; our changes to not alter Him," said Frederick W. Robertson. "When we are restless, He remains serene and calm; when we are low, selfish, mean or dispirited, He is still the unalterable I AM. The same yesterday, today, and forever, in whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. What God is in Himself, not what we may chance to feel Him in this or that moment to be, that is our hope." So, how does all this affect our lives? We can know that God will always be what He is right now - and has been before time began: loving, just, merciful, forgiving, compassionate, faithful, trustworthy, good, gracious, holy, impartial, patient, longsuffering, forbearing, et al. "The LORD Almighty has sworn, 'Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand'" (Isa. 14:24 NIV).
Prayer/Hymn: "Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not: As Thou has been Thou forever wilt be" (Thomas O. Chisholm, 1923).
