YOUR MOST IMPORTANT THOUGHT

"Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?' So he said, 'I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.'" (Gen. 3:9, 10 NKJV).

It was Daniel Webster who said, "The most important thought I ever had was that of my individual responsibility to God." This should have been Adam's most important thought before he partook of the forbidden fruit. It should be our most important thought throughout the day. We were created in God's image and likeness. Therefore, our thoughts should be godly, our deeds should be godly, and our words should be godly. We, as God's creatures, are indeed responsible to Him. He gave us life. What shall we do with that life - those thoughts, deeds, and words?

We live in a terribly irresponsible generation. One of my daughters used to coordinate teachers for Sunday School. It was quite frustrating for her because sometimes teachers never showed up. How irresponsible is that? I don't know if it qualifies for millstone necklaces or not but it comes mighty close in my book. Sometimes parents of toddlers will bring them into my wife's class when class is half or nearly over. Yesterday a minister I had an appointment with never showed or called. Churches that reserve the chapel where I have my offices sometimes never show up or call to cancel so others could have the room(s). These are just a few (bad) examples of irresponsibility.

Adam should have thought of his individual responsibility to God. So must we. "So then each of us shall give account of himself to God" (Rom. 14:12 NKJV).

Prayer: Faithful Father, help us to always live before You in good conscience. Empower us by Your Holy Spirit to live a life worthy of our calling. Through Christ Your Son we pray.
