THE GREATEST QUESTION

"The greatest question of our time is not communism versus individualism, not Europe versus America, not even the East versus the West: it is whether man can bear to live without God." ~ Will Durant

Those words, spoken several years ago by a world renowned historian, are still relevant today. Millions choose to live without God every day - but can they bear to? When one considers the eternal consequences, no, they cannot. I believe some of the bleakest words ever written in Scripture are found in Ephesians 2:12 NKJV: "...at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world." These words described the pre-Christian lives of many living in the ancient city of Ephesus. They could be spoken of many in Canada, America, England, France, you name the country, in 2009. Without God, without Christ, without a shred of hope.

I am thankful that Paul does not end with those bleak words. He goes on to say: "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ" (Eph. 2:13 NKJV). As long as Jesus lives (and He is "alive forevermore") no one has to go through life without God. He is the way to God. He is the truth of God. He is the life of God. Thank God today for sending His Son Jesus Christ to this world so that man can live forever - with God!

Prayer/Hymn: "O God, our Help in ages past, Our Hope for years to come, Be Thou our Guide while life shall last, And our eternal Home! Amen." (Isaac Watts)
