PART OF HIS DESIGN

It's dark out right now as I write, but I know that beyond the darkness is God; therefore, beyond the night is Light. When the sun comes up in a few hours, the light will banish the darkness. "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5 NIV).

I would hate to live in a world of total darkness, wouldn't you? Hell will be awful because it is a place of the deepest darkness. It will be dreadful because there will be no Light there; that is to say, God will not be there. Only the devil and his angels and those who have chosen to live godless, ungodly lives. But God did not design us for Hell. He made us to live with Him forever. I like what Leigh Nygard said about God. "The Engineer of the universe has made me part of his whole design." Just think about that for a moment, shall we? God created the entire universe - and He made you and me a part of that Great Design! He didn't have to, but He wanted to. The apex of the triune God's Creation was man. "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over . . . all the earth . . ." (Gen. 1:26 NIV). How wonderful the thought that the Engineer of the universe has made us a part of His whole design!

Prayer: Great and Eternal God, how humbled we are that You would include us in Your Great Design! Through Christ we praise You.

It occured to me recently that of all our senses (touch, taste, hearing, etc.) only sight is dependent on something outside ourselves - light! Without light all our other senses work just fine. A rose smells the same in the dark as in the daylight. But we cannot see without the light. It's God's gracious gift to us - let there be light!
