TO PLEAD WITH OTHERS

Have you ever felt that you gave up too soon or too easily in pleading with someone to give their life to Christ? I find that to be true in my life. But I do not find it to be true in the life of Peter, especially when he preached the Gospel on the Day of Pentecost. His listeners asked him, "What shall we do?" His response was, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ..." But the response to the Gospel did not come until he did some serious pleading. "With many other words he warned them: and he pleaded with them, 'Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.' Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day" (Acts 2:40, 41 NIV).

Paul believed in pleading with people as well. "Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men..." (2 Cor. 5:11 NKJV). Preaching, pleading, persuading. It is all a part of our Christian responsibility. We have a great Savior. We have a great salvation. We have a great plea. Let us plead with others "with many other words."

Hymn: "Though they are slighting Him, Still He is waiting, Waiting the penitent child to receive; Plead with them earnestly, Plead with them gently, He will forgive if they only believe. Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save." (Fanny J. Crosby)

I never thought of connecting Acts 2:38 and 2:40 like that before. Thanks for the "new" thought.

You're welcome, Dan. It sort of "jumped off the page" to me too!
