"So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also" (Rom. 1:15 NKJV). The great apostle Paul shares three "I am" statements with us in Romans 1:14-16. Yesterday we looked at the first of the three: "I am a debtor." Or as it reads in the Amplified New Testament: "I have an obligation to discharge and a duty to perform and a debt to pay."

Knowing that we have a debt to pay makes us "willing and eagerly ready" (Amplified) to preach the gospel. This is what drove Paul to make three missionary journeys, preach the gospel, and plant new churches. The gospel understood must be the gospel explained. He was prepared to proclaim what he had learned and absorbed. Everything I learned in Bible school, Bible camps, and Bible college prepared me to do what I am doing today. Your years of studying the Bible, participating in Bible classes, and listening to messages from God's Word has prepared you to do the same.

Someone has said, "If the devil were as lazy as most Christians, he would count his converts for each year on his fingers." I don't know if the devil has fingers or not but I do know he is always ready to spread his propaganda. We should be even more ready to preach the gospel wherever we go! Rome needed the gospel in Paul's days and every city in the world has need of it today. I like what Moses said about the conquest of Canaan" "There was not one city too strong for us" (Deut. 2:36 NKJV).

Hymn: "We've a story to tell to the nations That shall turn their hearts to the right, A story of truth and mercy, A story of peace and light..." (Colen Sterne)
