THE BEST SERMON

Sir Thomas Fuller said, "A good example is the best sermon." Even if you are not a preacher, you are "preaching" every day - by your example (or lack of). Christians owe everyone a good example. Henry Ward Beecher noted, "If you want your neighbor to see what Christ will do for him, let him see what Christ has done for you."
Jesus told His disciples that they were the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matt. 5:13, 14). "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven" (v. 16). We owe others a good example. Gilbert West said, "Example is a lesson that all men can read."
The apostle Paul said, "For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men" (2 Cor. 8:21). A man once told my father: "The eyes of many are upon you." The same can be said of every Christian. A good example is the best gift we can give to the world. Paul reminded Timothy, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity" (1 Tim. 4:12). That's good advice for all of us, young or old! We are all working on our "sermon" each day. People would rather see one than hear one. So let's all "let our little light shine."
Prayer: Heavenly Father, never once have we been disappointed when we look to Your Son for an example of how should we live. Empower us to live as He lived this day. Through Christ we pray.
