GOD'S CARE FOR THE REMNANT

God has a special place in His heart for the righteous remnant - those who continue to serve Him when other professing believers only serve themselves or their own interests. Notice today's passage. "I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number" (Jer. 23:3 NIV). This comes hard on the heels of God's stinging indictment of the so-called "shepherds" of Israel. "Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!...Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done" (vs. 1, 2). Modern church leadership should take seriously how God feels about having His people scattered and driven away or not being fed from God's Word!
I see hope for the righteous remnant in this passage. God Himself will gather them and bring them back to pleasant pastures! Can you just see God searching the earth for His scattered heritage and bringing them back? Notice he brings them back to their pasture. It is where they belong. Finally, notice God's hope and desire for the righteous remnant: they will be fruitful and increase in number. Isaiah said the remnant would again "take root downward, and bear fruit upward" (Isa. 37:31). God wants fruit, even from the remnant. It is possible to grow once again. Take heart, righteous remnant!
Prayer: Loving Father, You are so good to care for us, even when we are like a piece of fabric that is left over. Thank You for bringing us back to pasture where we can bear fruit for You! Through Christ we pray.
