THE WAR ON THE REMNANT

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Rev. 12:17 KJV). The ASV has "the rest of her seed" and the NIV has "the rest of her offspring." But the picture here is clear: Satan constantly makes war on the children of God - even the "righteous remnant." That is something we must keep in mind every day. Satan wants to defeat the church - right down to the last living saint of God! In fact, the remnant probably bears the brunt of Satanic attack.
Notice three things about the remnant that we learn from this passage. (1) They are the targets of Satan. The "church in the wilderness" must withstand the fiery darts of the devil every day of their lives. That is why being dressed in the "whole amour" of God is so important (Eph. 6). Did you get dressed this morning? (2) The remnant are righteous because they keep God's commandments. They are not of the number who disobey, disregard or discredit God's teachings. Scripture means much to them and they do their best to obey God each day. "This calls for patient endurance on the part of the saints who obey God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus" (Rev. 14:12 NIV). (3) The righteous remnant "have the testimony of Jesus." The NIV says "hold to the testimony of Jesus." When I think how many saints held to the testimony of Jesus even when they were being persecuted, tortured or put to death, it strengthens my resolve to be more faithful. How about you?
