"EVEN IN SARDIS"

This entry was posted on 08-11-2009 and is filed under RIGHTEOUS REMNANT.

"You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy" (Rev. 3:4 NKJV).

A remnant is that which remains. "Even in Sardis" they were a few good Christians left. Even in a church that was dead - and had to be told they were dead - there was a righteous remnant. Christ told the church in Sardis: "You have a name that you are alive, but you are dead" (3:1) Not all were dead, however, for in the next verse the Christ of the candlesticks says, "Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain..." The remnant in other words. This should teach us not to paint churches with a broad brush. "Even in Sardis" there were those who had not defiled themselves. Our Lord said, "They shall walk with Me." What an honor! To walk next to the Living Lord! But He does not stop there. The righteous remnant shall be dressed "in white." White is the color of power and purity in Revelation. Overcomers are dressed in white (see v. 5). The remnant in Sardis were considered "worthy" by Jesus to walk next to Him, dressed in white. How assuring it is to know that in even "dead" churches our Lord recognizes the righteous remnant who remain undefiled and walk daily with Him in sweet fellowship!

Prayer: Holy Father, I thank You for the faithful few who continue to live for You even in the midst of dead and dying churches. Fulfill Your word and "strengthen the things that remain." In Jesus' Name, Amen!
