"Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established: by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches" Proverbs 24:2 NKJV).

Here are the divine blueprints for building a home. There are three essentials: wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. The result is wonderful: a houseful of things precious and pleasant! Henry Van Dyke noted four things about the Christian home.
1. The crown of the home is godliness
2. The beauty of the home is order
3. The glory of the home is hospitality
4. The blessing of the home is contentment

Billy Graham said this about the Christian home. "The family should be a closely knit group. The home should be a self-contained shelter of security; a kind of school where life's basic lessons are taught; a kind of church where God is honored; a place where wholesome recreation and simple pleasures are enjoyed." Our home was that kind of home. We were (and remain) a closely knit family. We always felt secure at home. We learned many lessons in this "school" and enjoyed many "simple pleasures" - like eating popcorn Mom made for us as Dad read to us, with the lights low, the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by lamplight. And nearly every weeknight was "church" when we had family devotions together. Yes, our rooms were filled with things precious and pleasant!

Hymn: "Precious father, loving mother, fly across the lonely years; And old home scenes of my childhood, in fond memory appear. Precious mem'ries, how they linger, how they ever flood my soul. In the stillness of the midnight, precious sacred scenes unfold" ( J.B.F. Wright)
