REQUISITES OF A HAPPY HOME

James Hamilton (1814 - 1867) said there were six things necessary to create a happy home. "Integrity must be the architect and tidiness the upholsterer. It must be warmed by affection, lighted up with cheerfulness; and industry must be the ventilator, renewing the atmosphere and bringing in fresh salubrity [health and well-being] day by day; whole over all, as a protecting canopy and glory, nothing will suffice except the blessing of God."

Today let's look at that "protecting canopy" - the blessing of God. The first home on earth began with the blessing of God. "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it..." (Gen. 1:27, 28 NKJV). Without the blessing of God we are nothing. A home that does not have the blessing of God upon it is nothing. There are homes that God blesses and there are homes that God does not bless. Sometimes when my plane is on approach to a big city like London or New York I look down on all the rooftops. What is going on under those roofs? Does God weep when He sees a father abusing a child or does He rejoice when He observes a family kneeling in prayer? As Hamilton said, "Nothing will suffice except the blessing of God." Let us so conduct our homes as to have the blessing of God.

Hymn: "Our house is the place I love best. Our house isn't like all the rest; For our love makes something special out of our house, our house. At our house we are taught to obey, And our house is a church when we pray; For God's love makes something special out of our house every day." (Flo Price)
