GOD KNEW MY DAD

On April 25, a little more than 12 weeks ago, God called my father home. I was standing by his bedside when he took his last breath of life on earth. It was a moment in time I will never forget. I am comforted by the thought that my father is in the presence of the Lord today. To be "absent from the body" means one is "present with the Lord" according to Scripture.

My father was no stranger to God. Dad knew Him, loved Him, and served Him. And I believe that God knew my father all those years as well. Consider what God once said about Abraham. "For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him" (Gen. 18:19 NKJV). God knew Abraham and had faith in him that he would be a good father to his children, teaching them to keep His commandment and ways. And that is what our father did. He led our family in devotions, Bible study, prayer, and most of all by example. He gave us good counsel and direction. I believe that God knew that he would. I am happy to say to you today, "God knew my Dad!"

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful father You gave to me. Help me to follow his good example. I praise You for receiving him into Your presence where there is fullness of joy. Through Christ I pray.
