THE TREE OF LIFE

"In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations" (Rev. 22:2 NKJV).

This is one of my favorite verses in Revelation. I have traveled the world and have been to many nations where I have see untold and untoward suffering. I have seen many in need of healing and have felt helpless and frustrated that I could do nothing to alleviate them. But in Heaven, well, that will be different! I can just see those healing leaves being applied upon one person after another, from the little ones to the aged. And there will be no more pain, no more suffering, no more tears.

The tree of life is first mentioned in Genesis 3:6. We all know that story and how it ended. The tree of life is also cited in Ezekiel 47:12. The language is almost the same as in today's text. "Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine." In Heaven the fruit of the tree of life will not be forbidden. All may partake of its fruit. All those in need of healing will receive the same. There will be no crippled children or bent over aged there. What a beautiful picture of Heaven!

Prayer: Loving Father, how good You are to prepare such a place for us! Thank You for not only saving our soul but providing healing for all who need such. Through Christ we pray.
