A PLACE OF SERVICE

I have heard some people say, "If all we do in Heaven is sit around all day playing on a harp then I don't want to go there." I suppose they would rather go to Hell? I don't know where some people get the idea that Heaven is a place of inactivity because the Bible says otherwise. So indicates our verse for today. "Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple" (Rev. 7:15 NKJV).

Heaven is a place of service and sanctified activity. All who are there will be busily engaged in serving God. Right now I am thinking of one of my instructors in Bible college, Donald G. Hunt. He was always a busy man and I believe that he is busy today serving the Lord in Heaven. In the Parable of the Talents Jesus said, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord" (Matt. 25:21). I am not sure what my departed friend's assignment is, but I know that he is busy serving God in Heaven. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He said, "Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Matt. 6:10). In Heaven we will all do the will of the One who sits on the throne. I do not know what those tasks will be but I believe that the saved will happily "serve Him day and night in His temple." So, in the meantime, let us sing...

Hymn: "I am happy in the service of the King, I am happy Oh so happy; All that I possess to Him I gladly bring, in the service of the King. In the service of the King every talent I will bring; I have peace and joy and blessing in the service of the King" (A. H. Ackley).
