THE LAND OF THE MAJESTIC KING

"Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; they will see the land that is very far off" (Isa. 33:17 NKJV).

My Bible has a heading for this section of Scripture (Isa. 33:17-24) that reads, "The Land of the Majestic King." I like that. It almost sounds like a storybook, doesn't it? Look at some of the other verses in this section. "Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet home, A tabernacle that will not be taken down; not one of its stakes will ever be removed, nor will any of its cords be broken. But there the majestic LORD will be for us..." (vs. 20, 21). The tabernacle, as you know, was a mobile unit that had to be set up and broken down each time the Israelites broke camp and traveled on. No need for that in our "quiet" and permanent home!

The Old Testament saints desired a better country - a heavenly land (Heb. 11:16). They saw the promise of Heaven from afar off (Heb. 11:13). To them, and to us, Heaven is "the land that is very far off." But we, as they, see it by faith and strive to enter there. Indeed, it is "the land of the majestic king." Some day we will "see the King in His beauty." Songs have been written about that anticipated event. "Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior, upward, still upward we'll follow our Guide; When we shall see Him, the King in His beauty, happy, how happy, our place at His side" (Eliza E. Hewitt).

Prayer: Our kind Father in Heaven, how good You are to prepare a place for us, "a quiet home," to dwell with You forever! We long to see the King in His beauty and to take our happy place at His side. Through Christ, our coming King, we pray.
