A PLACE OF MATCHLESS SINGING

My friend Tom Burgess says the great miracle of Heaven will be that we will all sing the same music - and like it! There will be no discord or division in Heaven over the style of singing as there often is on earth. Every passage on praise, singing and worship in Heaven is in the context of joy, peace and harmony. Would that we would be so wise while we are still the church on earth!

In Heaven we find the 24 elders with harps in hand and they were singing a new song to the Lamb: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation" (Rev. 5:9 NIV). Then the angels join in: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" (Rev. 5:12 NIV). Not to be outdone, every creature in heaven and on earth (and under the earth and on the sea) begin singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power for ever and ever!" (Rev. 5:13 NIV). That is quite a scene, isn't it? In Rev. 15:2-4 we find another magnificent worship scene in Heaven. All those who have overcome sin and Satan are holding harps given to them by Almighty God and they sing "The Song of Moses the Servant of God and the Song of the Lamb." Heaven will be one great "hymn sing." I can't imagine what it will sound like or feel like but it will be the greatest congregational singing you have ever heard in your life. Part of that song says, "All nations will come and worship before you" (Rev. 15:4). Not even Hollywood, Letterbox format, or Imax can do that scene justice. Bob Chambers says, "The music of Heaven will surpass anything we know in this life."

Hymn: "Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Lift up your gates and sing! Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your King!" (Frederick Weatherly)
