A PLACE OF GRACE AND GLORY

When I was young I remember hearing a hymn sung at church that, in a way, I thought might be somewhat selfish. The chorus went, "O that will be glory for me, glory for me, glory for me..." But with the passing of time I have decided that the "Glory Song," as some call it, is not really selfish at all but rather is rooted deeply in Scripture. For example...

"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me to glory" (Psa. 73:24 NIV).

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us" (Rom. 8:18 NIV).

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all" (Eph. 1:18 NIV).

I think it is all right to glory in the glory that we shall enjoy in heaven. And by the way, that chorus ended: "When by His grace I shall look on His face, that will be glory, be glory for me." Another old hymn says, "He will give me grace and glory." It is only by the grace of God that we will enjoy the glory of God.

Hymn: "When all my labors and trials are o'er, and I am safe on the beautiful shore, just to be near the dear Lord I adore will through the ages be glory for me. When by the gift of His infinite grace, I am accorded in heaven a place, just to be there and to look on his face will through the ages be glory for me." (Charles H. Gabriel)
