THE SPIRITS OF JUST MEN MADE PERFECT

"But you have come...to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect" (Heb. 12:22, 23b NKJV).

What a picture the writer of Hebrew paints for us in these verses! What lofty language! and why not? He is describing heaven for us - "the general assembly." That is one assembly you do not want to miss. You may be a registered voter or a registered Republican, Democrat or Independent, but above all you must be "registered in heaven." Is your name on the register, i.e, the Lamb's Book of Life?

I just love how the writer describes the inhabitants of heaven (present and future) - "the spirits of just men made perfect." What, or more properly stated, who made them perfect? Not themselves. Not all the good deeds done in the world. The text goes on to give us a huge clue. "...to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel" (12:24). Earlier in this book we got a "sneak peek" at the answer. "But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God...For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified" (10:12, 14). Right now my father is one of those "spirits of just men made perfect." How I praise the Lord for that and how I want to join the ranks of all spirits of just men and women made perfect forever by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ! There's no other way to Heaven but the blood-sprinkled way!

Hymn: "I must needs go on in the blood-sprinkled way, the path that the Savior trod; if I ever climb to the heights sublime, where the soul is at home with God. The way of the cross leads home...It is sweet to know, as I onward go, the way of the cross leads home" (Jessie B. Pounds)
