WHEN WE DIE
This entry was posted on 05-04-2009 and is filed under DEATH.
Note: For the next few days I will be quoting from my book "What the Bible Says About Angels and Demons." The following is from Chapter 16.
What happens when a person dies? Where does his spirit go? How does it get there? Is there any difficulty in it getting from Point A to Point B? Are there any forces that would seek to prevent its safe arrival?
These are not trivial questions. They are extremely important and deserve straight-forward, Biblical answers. Interestingly, angels plan an important part in these answers.
The Bible says, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord" (Rev. 14:13). Death, for the believer, is a blessed or happy event. What wonderful assurance it gives us to know that our sins are forgiven and that we have a home awaiting us in heaven (1 John 5:13).
The apostle Paul testified that to be "absent from the body" was to be "present with the Lord" (2 Cor. 5:8). When a Christian dies, his spirit departs to be "with the Lord" (Phil. 1:23). Where is the Lord? He is in heaven, seated at the right hand of God (Mark 16:19; Heb. 1:3; Acts 2:33 et al). Where does the spirit of a believer go at death? To be "with the Lord" - in heaven!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for preparing a place for us to go when we die. We thank You that you have not abandoned us to the grave. Through Christ we pray.
