SOMETHING BETTER FOR US

"God having provided something better for us that they should not be made perfect apart from us" (Heb. 11:40 NKJV).
Today we come to a close of our extended study of Hebrews 11, "The Faith Chapter." My, what wonderful people we have come to know these past 40-some devotions. I am a little sad that we will be leaving them and this chapter. I hope these men and women of faith, some named and some unnamed, have challenged you (as they have challenged me) to live a greater life of faith for Christ.
I feel unworthy to be included in this verse, yet I am. "That they should not be made perfect apart from us." You are in this verse too. How does it make you feel to know that these dear people did not receive what was promised "because, with us in mind, God had made a better plan that only in their company with us should they reach their perfection" (NEB). It just humbles me beyond my comprehension. I guess this shows how much God wants all of us - saints past, saints present, and saints future - to be with Him in glory. Some day we will sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (vs. 17-21; Matt. 8:11) in the kingdom of heaven. What "table talk" we will have! We will discover that the life of faith will have been worth it all. Right now I am thinking of my earthly father, Dale V. Knowles, who died April 25 and went to be with the Lord above - and the saints above, including my dear mother. I would not miss this reunion for anything the world has to offer. So I will continue my life as a believer until God calls me home. Let us all be of the same mind and be faithful until death.
Hymn: "When all my labors and trials are o'er, and I am safe on that beautiful shore, just to be near the dear Lord I adore, will through the ages me glory for me. Friends will be there I have loved long ago, joy like a river around me will flow; yet just a smile from my Savior I know, will through the ages me glory for me..." (Charles H. Gabriel)
