THE FAITH OF MOSES, PART 4

I am human. Every once in awhile I have to ask, "Is anyone out there reading these Daily Bible Studies?" Let me hear from you today! (Even if I don't, rest assured you will still have another "Honey from the Rock" on this site tomorrow.)

"It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt. He was not afraid of the king..." (Heb. 11:27 TLB). Faith doesn't sit around the house all day. Faith doesn't sit on its hands. Faith isn't indecisive or vacillating. Faith motivates a man to move. By faith Moses left the land of Egypt. Boy, did he leave Egypt! We're talking an exodus, like, The Exodus! He took with him hundreds of thousands of Israelites. Exodus 12:37 puts the number at 600,000 - and that is just the men! So we're easily talking over a million people, maybe millions. Men of faith can lead an entire nation to greater heights (and men with no faith in God can take a nation down. Witness the former USSR. Think about the USA).

Moses' faith caused him to be a fearless leader. "Not fearing the wrath of the king" (NASB). I am thinking right now of many of my dear Christian friends in Eastern Europe who lived by faith in God during the dark days of the Iron Curtain when faith in God was forbidden. They met in homes and cellars and even in forests. I think of the underground church in China today. I think of what may be ahead for us in the good old USANewsweek recently ran a headline: "We're all socialists now." Socialism leads to communism. We will be called to live under circumstances that my friends in Poland once endured? If so, take heart. Faith will conquer all! But not a dormant faith. A dynamic faith is what we are talking about here. The faith that saves is the faith that obeys!

Prayer/Hymn combo: O for a faith that will not shrink, though pressed by every foe, that will not tremble on the brink of any earthly woe! (W. H. Bathurst)

Boy, did I read "Honey" today! I read it every day, Victor. I hesitate to comment very often because I always get a blessing from reading it. I copied out the scriptures for the six things Jacob was commended for, because I want to be commended for the same things. Thanks for posting Honey from the Rock!

Every person has faith in someone or something. But, in large part, the dismay and hopelessness of our time is the result of so many objects of faith proving unsubstantial and unreliable. The government is not the answer, or science, or military might, or money. What then?

In Bathurst's hymn, that you quote, he says later he wants a faith that will "lean upon its God." And he realizes that the Almighty is not only to be the object of his faith, but is the source of it. He prays in the final stanza, "Lord, give me such a faith as this."

The scary thing is that it is in testing times that this faith will grow. Moses' faith certainly did. I don't look forward to what that may mean, but I know the Lord is sufficient.

Just a few more thoughts. God bless.
