THE FAITH OF MOSES, PART 2

"He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time" (Heb. 11:25 NIV).
Biblical, saving faith is not static. It moves. It does things. It makes choices. What has your faith led you to choose lately? Moses did something few people of faith are willing to do. He deliberately chose to be "mistreated." The NLT has "oppression", the NASB "ill-treatment" and the KJV "affliction." No wonder the Bible describes Moses as "no ordinary child" (v. 23). He cast his lot with God's people, not Pharaoh's. He could have been prime minister; instead, he became a prime target. God's people have always been a target for harassment and persecution, and always will be as long as Satan is the prince of this world. Don't think it strange if the world mistreats you. You are in good company - you are marching with Moses.
Moses could have made another choice. He could have enjoyed the pleasures of sin. He could have had a harem. He could have lived life to the hilt. He could have lived like Hugh Hefner. But his faith in God would not allow him to party and indulge in illicit pleasure. He was wiser that most - he knew that the erotic is erratic; that the passing pleasures of sin last only for a short time. I sometimes wonder what people think as they are breathing their last after living a life of indulging in iniquity. Moses had no regrets because he, early on, chose to suffer with saints instead of swinging with sinners. Biblical faith makes crucial choices - hard choices. What will you choose to do today (or not do)?
Prayer: Holy Father, thank You for giving us a man like Moses to model our lives after. Give us the faith of Moses that we might always serve You and find strength in the fellowship of the unashamed. Through Christ we pray.
