NOAH'S FAITH

"By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith" (Heb. 11:7 NKJV).

Today's text underscores the need for our faith to be an obedient faith. It is the worst kind of "cheap grace" when we just say, "Yes, Lord, I believe you," and then do nothing to demonstrate our faith and trust in God. The faith that saves is the faith that obeys! Faith, according to Romans 10:17, comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. God spoke to Noah and told him what was going to happen. The Amplified says, "being forewarned of God concerning events of which as yet there was no visible sign." Noah received specific instructions from God as to the construction of the ark (Gen. 6:14-21). "Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did" (Gen. 6:22). I think there is a life lesson for us in that final verse.

Faith is more than mental assent. Faith is more that merely saying "yes" to God. Faith is listening to God. Faith is doing to the best of our ability what God has asked us to do. Faith is not delaying or dallying. Faith is not arguing with God or rationalizing our behavior. When you act upon your faith you are pleasing to God (Heb. 11:6). You, like Noah, will become "possessor of the uprightness that results from faith" (Williams). What is God telling you through His Word? Believe it, receive it, and act on it today.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we do want to please You in every way. May our reverence for You cause us to move out in faith and do our best for You this day.
