THE SHADOW OF DEATH

"...The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world" (Rev. 13:8).
Several years ago I clipped the following from a Christian magazine.
Holman Hunt's classic painting, "The Shadow of Death," depicts Christ and His mother Mary in the carpenter shop in Nazareth. Jesus looks up, stretches and as he does so, the evening sunlight streaming through the open door casts a shadow in the form of a cross on the wall behind Him. His tool rack looks like a horizontal bar on which He had been crucified. The tools themselves are symbolic of the fateful hammer and nails. Mary is startled at her son's cruciform shadow on the wall.
Though the idea is historically fictitious, it presents a timeless truth. The shadow of the cross loomed over the life of Christ, from the cradle to Calvary, for our redemption was planned from the foundation of the world!
Prayer: Father, we can't quite grasp this mystery of Your Son being the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, but we believe. Help Thou our unbelief!
