Paradox of the Cross #4 - Jesus became the Son of Man that we might become the sons of God. In describing Himself to others, our Lord used the term "Son of Man" more than any other term. Yes, He was the Son of God - the only begotten Son of God for that matter. But He also knew that He was the Son of Man. "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being make in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!" (Phil. 2:6-8 NIV). Fully God and fully man, He died for us on the cross!

Now the way was open for us to become the sons (children) of God! "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!...Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure" (1 John 3:1-3 NIV). What stands between the Son of Man and we who are the sons (children) of God? Only one thing - the Cross of Christ! Let us thank God for the Cross today!

Chorus: "At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light and the burdens of my heart rolled away - It was there by faith I received my sight, and now I am happy all the day!" (Isaac Watts)
