FILLING YOUR MIND WITH GOD

DAY 6 - In order to have the mind of Christ we must learn the discipline of filling up our mind with the things of God. Have you ever heard about the principle of displacement? Take a bucket and fill it with water. Now begin to place pebbles in the bucket, one at a time. At first it will not seem like anything is happening. But if you continue to drop pebbles in the bucket, something amazing takes place. Slowly but surely the pebbles begin to displace the water until the bucket is filled with pebbles.

Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). The best thing we can put into our mind is the very word of God. Don't wait until Sunday when you go to church for this to happen. That is only one day a week. What kind of physical health would you have if your were spoon-fed only once a week? We normally eat "three square meals" a day. Perhaps we should fill our minds with God's Word at least three times a day. Reading comes to mind. The Bible is also on tapes and CDs. Listen to God as you drive to work or home from work. The more you can displace mere words and earth-bound thoughts with divine words and spiritual thoughts, the better you will be. Keep a little baby food jar of pebbles or pea gravel on your desk or kitchen counter to remind you of the principle of displacement. Then fill your mind with the words of God all day long.

Prayer: Dear God, be in our thoughts this day. Crowd out every non-spiritual thought with Your divine words. Bring to our remembrance wonderful things that we have not thought of in a long time. Give us songs in the night. Through Christ we pray.
