THE GREATEST OF THESE

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love"
(1 Cor. 13:13 NKJV).

Love is the greatest thing in the world. More songs, poems, novels, plays, and movies have been made about love than any other topic. Faith is a wonderful attribute but Paul writes, "though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." Philanthropy has blessed multitudes but "though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor...and have not love, it profits me nothing." Martyrdom is the supreme sacrifice, yet "though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing."

I want to live the life of love. And what is love? "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails" (vs. 4-8a). Do you want to live a great life? Then substitute your name for "love" in this passage. This is the acid test of our Christianity. This is the way to live. This is the only way to live!

Hymn: We are God's loved ones, the Bride of Christ our Lord,
For we have known it, the love of God outpoured;
Now let us learn how to return the gift of love once given:
O let us share each joy and care, and live with a zeal that pleases Heaven.
