THE KINGDOM OF HOPE

The Russians have a proverb: "In the kingdom of hope there is no winter." Now think about that for a moment, will you? There is no winter like a Russian winter. Just ask those who have managed to survive a winter in Russia. But when it comes to hope, and the kingdom of hope, there is no winter. "Hope springs eternal." We can live without many things in life but we cannot live one minute without hope. When hope is gone, everything is gone. Perhaps that is why Dr. Karl Menninger said, "Hope is the major weapon against the suicide impulse."
And so Paul places hope right smack in the middle of 1 Corinthians 13:13. "And now these three remain: faith, HOPE and love..." Parents name their daughters "Hope." No one names them "Despair." Victor Hugo said, "The word which God has written on the brow of every man is 'hope.'" Hope is forever linked with faith. "Faith is being sure of what we hope for..." (Heb. 11:1 NIV). Hope is faith holding out it hands in the dark (George Iles). I've been there. Haven't you? Abraham "against hope believed in hope" (Rom. 4:18). When all seems against hope, believe in hope. And remember the source of our hope. "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col. 1:27).
Hymn:
My hope is in the Lord
Who gave Himself for me
And paid the price of all my sin at Calvary. (Norman J. Clayton)
