WHY CHRIST WAS BORN

"But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent for His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons" (Gal. 4:4, 5 NKJV).
God had power to send His Son to earth as a full-grown man, ready to die for the sins of the world. But He chose to wait for just the right time, "when the fullness of the time had come" as Paul says in our text. God's timing is always perfect. He is never ahead of time or running late. For nine months the Son of God waited in the womb of the virgin Mary. Dr. Luke reminds us that while she was in Bethlehem (where the prophet Micah said the Christ child would be born) "the time came for her baby to be born" (Luke 2:6 TLB). The NASB says, "the days were completed for her to give birth."
But why was Jesus born - born of a woman, born under the law? Or text says "that he might redeem those who were under the authority of the Law, and lead us into becoming, by adoption, true sons of God" (J. B. Phillips). Christ was born so that we might be saved (John 3:16, 17). He was born to die; to give His life as a ransom for our sins (Matt. 20:28) in order to bring us to repentance (Matt. 9:13).
Hymn:
Hark! the herald angels sing, 'Glory to the newborn King; peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!'
Joyful, all ye nations rise, join the triumph of the skies; with angelic host proclaim, 'Christ is born in Bethlehem!'
Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die, Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give us second birth."
