LACK OF PURPOSE

Billy Sunday said, "More men fail through lack of purpose than through lack of talent." I think Sunday was right. I see so many people today just drifting through life with no clear purpose in mind (which is evidence they have no purpose of heart).

Not so our Lord Jesus. He knew His purpose from at least age 12. When his parents accidentally left him in Jerusalem, the returned to that city, packed with pilgrims, to seek their young son. It took them three days to find Him! That tells me that Jesus' own parents, as good as they were, did not understand the life purpose of their boy. On the third day they found Him in the temple. He had been there all along - because He knew His purpose. So He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" (Luke 2:49 NKJV). The NIV says, "Didn't you know that I had to be in my Father's house?" Did you catch that? Had to be...I must be...

Jesus knew, absolutely knew, His purpose in life. "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me" (John 6:38 NKJV). Above all else, the will of God! That's it, my dear friend. When we devote ourselves to the will of God, we will understand the purpose of God. When we understand His intent, we will gladly give up our discontent!

Prayer: Dear Lord, empower me by Your grace and power to be all that You want me to be!
