SET FOR JERUSALEM

If you knew that you only had one week to live, how would you live? What would you do and where would you go? Our Bible study for today is taken from Luke 9:51 & 53 (NKJV). "Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem..." Chronologically, this day began the last week of Jesus' earthly life. Like a laser beam He focused on Jerusalem, the City of God, mentioned some 800 times in the Bible.
On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus and His disciples entered a village of Samaritans, "but they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem." When you are determined to achieve a goal, others take notice. When James and John took note of the snub they asked Jesus if they wanted Him to command them to nuke the city. Our Lord rebuked them with these words: "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them." He knew that His ultimate purpose for coming to earth was to die in Jerusalem to save mankind from their sins. That is why our Lord set His face to Jerusalem and that is why we, as His followers, must discover our purpose in life and set our face to it, wherever it make take us, whatever may happen to us.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the resoluteness of Your Son Jesus. Help us to emulate Him in every way this day. Through Him we pray.
