"So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him" (2 Cor. 5:11 ESV).

What is your aim in life? What is it that you want to accomplish? What is your purpose for living? In today's text, Paul tells us what his primary purpose was - "to please God." When we were young, this was our aim. I remember wanting to please my parents. We have a heavenly parent as it were - God, the Father of us all. He has been so good to us, better than any of us deserve. Why not "make it our aim to please Him"?

Before we seek to please anyone else in life we should seek to live a life that is pleasing to God. All the the great Bible characters sought to do this. Sound the roll call of faith: Abraham, Moses, David, Paul, and most of all, Jesus Christ. Listen to His testimony in John 8:29 NKJV, "...He who has sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him." This is the example we should follow. Before you do anything today ask yourself, "Will this please my Father?"

There are two things in the above verse (John 8:29) that will help us develop this single purpose in life. (1) The fact that we too have been sent. We have a commission in life. (2) The One who commissioned us is with us and has not left us alone. If that doesn't give us purpose in life, what would? Yesterday we sang a song in church that I had not heard or even thought of for years, "Where No One Stands Alone."

Prayer/Hymn: "Take my hand, let me stand, where no one stands alone."
