Do you want to know a secret? Would you like to know how you can be an effective, fruitful Christian? Here it is. "If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love" (John 15:10 NIV) By being obedient to Jesus' teachings, we will abide in His love. That's it, pure and simple.

A few years ago some "leading lights" who were (and probably still are) in the "faith only" camp made strong derision of those who emphasize the Lordship of Christ. They called them (us, perhaps you) "Commandment Keepers." I have news for them. Jesus was a "Commandment Keeper." He obeyed His Father's commands. That's how He stayed in the Father's love. And He tells us that if we obey His commands, we will remain in His love. Earlier He said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command" John 14:15). I wonder what kind of love for Christ does one have who disregards the teachings of Christ and even ridicules those who obey His commands? "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?" (Luke 6:46). "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 7:21). The "secret" to remaining in Christ's love - thus bearing the fruit of love - is to humbly and gladly obey His commands, just as He humbly and gladly obeyed the commands of His Father!
