THE FRUIT OF LOVE

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love" (John 15:9 ESV). We now move into one of two specific fruits mentioned by Jesus - love. We know this is a natural fruit of the Vine for God is love, Christ manifested that love, and the fruit of the Spirit is love (Gal. 5:22). In fact, it is the first fruit mentioned in the list of nine godly, Christ-like, Spirit-produced virtues.

We are told to "abide" (remain) in Christ's love. Once again we see the word "abide." We are to stay in contact with Christ, the source of true love. We are to remain in communion (fellowship) with Him, who sends forth His love into our heart. From our heart, the love of God flows to others. "Because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us" (Romans 5:5 NIV). Do you see how beautiful and simple this is? Love flows from the Vine to the branches to bless others. This is why it is so vital that we remain in union with the Vine! If we don't, God's love - the spiritual nutrient so desperately needed by the world - will never get there. The Bible says, "Keep yourselves in God's love" (Jude 1:21 NIV).

Prayer: Holy Father, empower us by Your Spirit to abide in the love of Christ that we might be a channel of blessing to others!
