FRUIT FOR THE FATHER

"By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit..." (John 15:8 ESV). Who is the fruit for? It is not for the branch or even for the vine. It is for the vineyard owner - Almighty God. When we bear fruit, it brings glory to the Father. When we bear much fruit, it brings that much more glory to God. The apostle Paul declared that we have died to the law through the body of Christ, "in order that we may bear fruit for God" (Rom. 7:4).

But our God is a giving God. He does not need the fruit for Himself. He wants more from us so that He, through our lives, can give more fruit to those who need it. Andrew Murray said, "He does not ask fruit from the branches of His Vine for show, to prove what He can do. No, He needs it for the salvation of men; it is in this that He is glorified." Colossians 1:10 tells us "to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work..." The lives we live not only glorify God but nourish and challenge those whom we associate with in our family and in the workplace. We are the "Farmer's Market" on display.

Prayer: Father, we want to be more fruitful for You. May we always cling to the Vine in order to produce much fruit for You in Your Vineyard. Through Christ we pray.
