Today we begin a series I am calling "Juice for Jesus." It will be based on the teachings of Christ in John 15:1-17. You have heard, of course, of the Jews for Jesus movement. Well, this study will be all about how God wants every Christian to be Juice for Jesus. He is the vine and we are the branches. The living Christ wants us to be fruit-bearing branches for Him. "Every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful" (15:2 NIV).

The setting for Jesus' teaching on the vine and the branches is important. The Last Supper has just ended (John 13). The disciples have arisen from the table and are about to leave the room (John 14:31). On the table was the remains of their supper, including glasses containing the fruit of the vine. Perhaps as they are walking they pass a grape vine, laden with clusters of ripe, luscious fruit. In any event, Jesus begins to talk to them about the relationship between the vine - the True Vine - and the branches. The bottom line in this lesson is found in verse 8: "This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." Yes, we are to be...Juice for Jesus!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to learn - and live - the lesson of the Vine and the branches. Thank You for grafting us into this Living Vine - Your Own Son! Through Christ we pray.
