GIVING THANKS

"...giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Col. 3:17b NKJV).

Whatever we do in word or deed, we are to do everything in the name of Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him for the privilege and opportunity of speaking those words or doing those deeds. Barclay notes, "If a man brings every word and deed to the test of the presence of Jesus Christ, he will not go wrong." We should so speak and live so that Jesus Christ could say: "I'm Jesus Christ and I endorse this person's words/actions!"

Does it gall you when you say something complimentary or doing something nice for a person and they do not even say "thank you?" One of my daughters returned some money to a bank. They had given her too much when they cashed her check. Instead of thanking her, they became defensive and belligerent. Jesus healed 10 lepers but only one came back to thank Him. Where were the nine ingrates? Do we regularly give thanks to God through Christ? Gerhard Frost said, "Let us give thanks for Someone to thank." Whom do atheists thank for a beautiful day? O Lord, give us a heart of thankfulness!

An old prayer:
Thank you, dear God
For all you have given me
For all you have taken away from me
For all you have left me.

Today's comment reminded me of the atheist who sued to have an atheist holiday since he felt there were too many Christian holidays. The judge said, "You already have one, April 1." Psalm 14:1.
