"And sing, sing your hearts out to God!" (Col. 3:16 The Message).

William Barclay says that from the beginning the early church was a singing church. "It inherited that from the Jews, for Philo tells us that often they would spend the whole night in hymns and songs. One of the earliest descriptions of a Church service we possess is that of Pliny, the Roman governor of Bithynia, who sent a report of the activities of the Christians to Trajan, the Roman emperor, in which he said, 'They meet at dawn to sing a hymn to Christ as God'" (The Daily Bible Study Series).

My wife and I just returned from a gathering (Woodland Bible Camp) where people sang their hearts out to God. It seemed like each one was a trained singer and the four-part harmony was something to behold. One song they sang was from Ukraine and it was sung in the minor key. Of course, I liked that because I have heard congregations in Ukraine (and Poland and Russia) sing. O, how they love to sing! The KJV says, "Singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." Rotherham has, "With gratitude raising song..." J. B. Phillips translates, "Singing God's praises with joyful hearts." Whenever and wherever you sing, sing your heart out to the Lord!

Chorus: "Singing, I go along life's road, Praising the Lord, praising the Lord;
Singing, I go along life's road, For Jesus has lifted my load." (Eliza Hewitt)
