GOD'S CHOSEN PEOPLE

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved..." (Col. 3:12a NIV).
I find it interesting that Paul uses the same description God had for Israel ("God's chosen people") for the church in Colosse. This does not mean that God has given up on Israel (see Romans 11). It simply means that the church, like Israel, is the apple of God's eye. Jesus chose the 12 to follow Him. Paul himself was a "chosen vessel" (Acts 9:15). We are a "chosen generation" (1 Pet. 2:9).
God also considers His people to be holy. We are holy because He is holy. We are to live holy lives because He is holy. God has set us apart from the world to live like beacons in the night. We are also dearly loved by God. He so loved the world that He gave His only Son. He so loves us that He has included us in His kingdom, the church. He spreads His love everywhere through us by His Spirit. You can know at least three things about yourself in relationship to God: (1 You are chosen; (2 You are holy [have been made holy]; (3 You are loved. If that doesn't make you feel better about yourself I don't know what would!
Prayer: Holy Father, we express to You our utmost thanks for choosing us to be on Your team - for making us holy and righteous through Christ - and for loving us with an everlasting love. Through Christ we pray.
