THE COMING WRATH

"Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them" (Col. 3:6,7 NKJV).

The Bible contains several accounts of God's wrath being poured out upon nations, peoples and individuals. But here Paul speaks of a wrath that is coming - future tense. Many people do not believe this will ever happen. Peter wrote, "But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word [that destroyed them in Noah's day - V.K.], are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men" (2 Pet. 3:7). The Great Flood is a precursor of something even more powerful and devastating to come. When people know a hurricane is coming they get prepared. Something far more powerful than a hurricane is coming some day.

But notice upon whom the wrath of God will fall - "the sons of disobedience." Although we ourselves once walked with them, and participated in the same sins (see v. 5), that wrath will not come upon us because our lives are now hidden with Christ in God (see. v. 3). The bad news is: wrath is coming. The good news is: it will not fall upon us. "For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtains salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thess. 5:9).

Chorus/Prayer: "Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul, Thank you, Lord, for making me whole; Thank you, Lord, for giving to me Thy great salvation so rich and free" (Seth & Bessie Sykes).
